obscure music aficionado geoff hawryluk is releasing the long-anticipated Eau, a far more accessible fortysomething-minute EP of orchestral pop arrangements in comparison to his other endeavors, including this year’s Radio Myanmar (Burma) by Sublime Frequencies. Eau is available for purchase in mp3 or cd form here.

He is also starting a mp3 blog featuring music from cassette tapes he has collected from abroad. The first tracks available for download so far boasts Burmese ethnic rock, Thai radio broadcasts, and Toraja bamboo music from Indonesia.

Lastly, I’ve been cleaning up the coding on this thing. I have some work to post soon.

i am back to my old habits perhaps? staying up much later than i can afford, eyes glued to the flickering screen in the dead of night. In this state, I am relentless.

I have never done a very dark photograph before. We will have to see though if it looks any good in the morning seeing that I whipped this one up as I was myself surrounded in darkness. Also, I believe I shall be doing more in the next while though I do not imagine any of it will be very good. I’ve lost my touch that is…if I even had any to lose in the first place. Stay tuned, perhaps, those of you who sometimes drop by.

(I am planning to clean up the code on this thing…the many, many problems bother me. kgan.net has changed somewhat.)

never really worked on the múm photos. here is one of Hildur Guðnadóttir, one of the neu-few joining the icelandic band’s roster.

múm as you had known it before this year’s go go smear the poison ivy is gone. this is the new cast, slightly larger, slightly louder. their performance was pretty good, but gone are the elusive childlike vocals i had grown to love (with the departure of krístin anna). the entire set was material from the last album with the exception of three old songs, two of which were strictly instrumental. they did try to do “the ghosts you draw on my back” with dual vocals between örvar and mr.Silla (the blond girl). needless to say for the pre-2007 múm fan, it left something to be desired. like many have already stated, the sound, lineup and feel warrant a new name. this is them doing a little bow after their encore.

sorry folks. i finally figured out what was wrong with the site for the previous month and a half. everything should be operating appropriately starting now.

secondly, my external hard drive died. and after only one year! i had several projects that were still active on that accursed thing (not to mention all of my music). i will have to hope and pray that the data will be recoverable (and for a reasonable fee). although i hear that prospects are grim. hence: future shop products are shitty.

finally this is how we do on the coast…er maybe just how i do on the coast…just so you know that i am still very much alive (and still smothered by homework as per usual).

so i never have photos of snic. the dilated pupils are unnerving. cj should love it. i think.

Portraits @ Azimuth Theatre

little did i realize (or care for that matter) to conform to the colour scheme of the PC world. well, after witnessing for myself the horror that is displayed on most of the world’s computer monitors, i have decided to take drastic measures–that is, i have calibrated my monitor to simulate the sickly masses….the dreaded lowest common denominator (which i will call LCD). how can you people bear the perpetual urine-stained tint? blech. so now my pictures won’t be so gross. hence, a new self-portrait to evade the ghastly yellow-green effect.

a number of sources have influenced me to make this piece…one example is haruki murakami’s kafka on the shore which i am reading right now. the other obviously being the new zelda game. thirdly, the excellent Katsuhito Ishii film cha no aji. probably also robertson davies’ fifth business although the title did not occur to me immediately but rather in trying to sort through the ideas…as you can see, all of these influences deem the Unconscious–and particularly the Shadow–as an undeniable force seeping into the external world that ultimately should be embraced in one sense or another.

i drank a latte at 8 PM this evening during a break for this night class i’m taking and now i can’t go to sleep. it’s almost 3 AM now. hence, all the minor but rather substantial changes that have occurred all of a sudden. the older posts look kind of funny…but i am too lazy to make everything compatible right away.
